4 day Mae Chaem River Kayaking

5 Day Excursion , 4 day Mae Chaem River Kayaking

If you are looking for a unique adventure in Thailand, a 4-day kayaking trip through the northern part of the Mae Chaem valley could be just the ticket. This trip is perfect for intermediate kayakers who are looking for a challenge but don't want to tackle anything too extreme.

 To get started, we make your way to the Mae Chaem valley, which is about a 2.5-hour drive from your starting point. Once you arrive, we will spend the night in the area so that you can get an early start the next day.

On the first day of the trip, we will head upstream to the village of Mesa. From there, we will begin our journey down the Mae Chaem River. Over the course of the next four days, you will paddle through a variety of landscapes, including farm fields and jungles.

The Mae Chaem River is rated as a class 1-3 river, which means that it is suitable for intermediate kayakers. This river offers a unique experience that you won't want to miss.

Along the way, you will have access to comfortable local accommodations where you can get a good night's rest before heading back out on the river. The average distance covered each day is about 26 km, which allows for a relaxed pace and plenty of time to take in the beautiful scenery.

In total, you will cover 107 km on your journey down the Mae Chaem River. This trip is an excellent way to experience the natural beauty of northern Thailand while getting a good workout and having fun. 5 Day Trip summary

Day 1 : Afternoon drive to Mai Na Chon (Mae Chaem valley) 3 hrs

3:00 pm 3 hr drive from Chiang Mai through Doi Inthanon National Park to Mai na chon Guest house "Hot spring"

Dinner , check the river , relax get a good night sleep

Day 2 : Day 1 Kayak  Mesa to Mai Na Chon 26 km

An early start 7;30 AM , after breakfast we drive to our starting point 1 hr north , the village of Mesa 

8:30 am - 9 am We are in the water heading south through hill tribe land and Pine forests

4 30 pm we plan to arrive at our GH. our ground crew expecting us eagerly. "long Day"

Dinner , stories, beer and a good night sleep at this cooler elevation

Day 3 Day 2 Paddle Mai Na Chon  to Mae Chaem  24 km

7 30 am Breakfast 

9 am we are in the water, this time we are right next to the river , the river opens up on the trip and the class 2 currents carry us through amazing country side to the village of Mae Chaem 

4:30 pm we take a hot shower and enjoy the delicious Thai cuisine, a side trip into the village brings us in touch with the local culture

Dinner, beers and a good night sleep gets us to the next morning.

Day 4 : Day 3 Paddling from Mae Chaem to Mae Salong hill tribe village 25 km

7:30 am Breakfast

8:30 am  We are in the water just south of the village, thanks to our ground crew we get to avoid the "flats" in the mid valley and we are off into the forest

We can expect a few more class 2 + rapids and a couple  class 3 (can walk around)  on this section as the valley tightens up a bit until we each Salong village around 4 30 pm

Here we are taken care of and get to rough it a bit as we "camp out " in the hill tribe village for the night. not without devouring a  the delicious meal .

Day 5 : Day 4  Paddle to Obluang National Park

7 30 am Breakfast

8 30 am  We are right next to the river so its an early start and we are off back into the woods

The currents is friendly , the class 2 rapids are joint by numerous currents taking us through the turns 

3:00 pm we should reach our final destination with a celebratory late lunch at the village

A scenic drive takes us through Obluang National Park back to the Mae Ping valley and on to Chiang Mai 

Reflecting on this great adventure, the 2.0 hr drive seems to fly by.

Please note

This trip is designed for the fit intermediate kayaker, currents are swift with mostly mild class 2 rapids , a couple of class 3 (can walk around). kayaker should have previous experience, know how to role or "wet exit" and should know they can paddle up to 5 hrs.

If you are a beginner Kayak F on the Mae Ping River is more appropriate :)

Children :  This  Kayak trip is suitable for children from 16 years old.
